The Business of Being Born

The truth is, it's not just babies that are born.
Mamas are born.
Papas are born.
Even Doulas are born.

In that one tiny moment I shall never forget, I was born.
Born as a care provider.
Born as an educator.
Born as a doula.

In that one enormously long second I shall never forget, I was changed.
Forever I am changed.
Forever my heart is different.
Forever .

I cannot find the words to tell you how much this whole process meant to me.
I will probably talk about it for a long time.
I hope you have the courage to stand by and listen.

You're a doula now? I love it! I wanted to have a doula so badly with Ben, but we couldn't really afford it. Turns out, my neighbor acted as my doula anyway. She took me to the hospital, massaged my back (she was a massage therapist), kept me going, encouraged me, took the night shift while Wendell slept. I am forever grateful to her. It was such a gift.

I have no training but the intense amount of reading I have done for my own sake. This was the first birth I attended and it was not planned that way.

I am on the LOOKOUT for births to PLAN to attend. :)
